The Gauntlet is a solo activity where you gather resources, make equipment and supplies, then defeat the Hunllef. Choose the normal Gauntlet to learn the preparation and fight, or the Corrupted Gauntlet for a shorter preparation timer, a stronger boss and more chest rolls.

Getting there

  1. Open the Sarim Hub and search for The Gauntlet.
  2. Use the entrance and choose the normal or corrupted version.
  3. Have at least 70 current levels in Agility, Construction, Farming, Herblore, Mining, Smithing and Woodcutting. Restore drained levels before entering.
  4. Claim any outstanding Gauntlet chest before starting another run.

Your ordinary inventory and equipment are replaced by temporary Gauntlet containers during the run and return when you leave. Normal preparation starts with gathering tools, a pestle and mortar, a teleport crystal and a starting weapon.

Normal and corrupted

Version Preparation time Boss Hitpoints Completed chest
Normal 20 minutes Crystalline Hunllef 600 2 reward rolls and 5–25 crystal shards
Corrupted 13 minutes 20 seconds Corrupted Hunllef 1,000 3 reward rolls and 10–45 crystal shards

The timer is time to prepare. When it expires, you are moved into the boss fight. You can begin earlier by passing the boss barrier. Finish your equipment, food and potions before doing either.

Preparing a run

Aim for two different weapon styles, a complete armour set, cooked paddlefish and Egniol potions. Two weapon styles let you keep attacking when the Hunllef protects against one of them. Complete the helm, body and legs at the same tier: mixed tiers do not receive the complete-set damage reduction.

  1. Explore nearby rooms. Gather ore, phren bark and linum tirinum for armour, and collect shards from monsters.
  2. Kill smaller monsters for a weapon frame. If one has not dropped earlier, the third small-monster kill supplies one. Pick up the drop.
  3. Return to the singing bowl and make a basic weapon, then upgrade it as you gather more shards. Repeat for a second combat style.
  4. For perfected weapons, hunt the stronger bear, dark beast or dragon for the corresponding component. The bear supplies a spike for a halberd, the dark beast a bowstring for a bow, and the dragon an orb for a staff while that component remains uncollected.
  5. Gather armour resources and use the singing bowl to complete your helm, body and legs. Upgrade the whole set together when you have time and materials.
  6. Fish raw paddlefish, then use them on a cooking range or stove. Bring cooked fish into the fight.
  7. Make Egniol potions and arrange your weapon switches, food and potions before passing the barrier.

The supplied teleport crystal returns you to the starting room and is consumed when used. Save it for returning from a gathering trip.

Useful singing bowl recipes

Use shards and ingredients from the version you entered. Crystal and corrupted equipment have matching upgrade stages.

Craft Ingredients
Basic bow, staff or halberd 20 shards and a weapon frame
Attuned weapon Basic weapon and 60 shards
Perfected weapon Attuned weapon and its spike, bowstring or orb
Basic helm, body or legs, each 40 shards, 1 ore, 1 phren bark and 1 linum tirinum
Attuned armour, each piece Basic piece, 60 shards, 2 ore, 2 phren bark and 2 linum tirinum; corrupted attuned legs use 1 ore
Perfected armour, each piece Attuned piece, 80 shards, 2 ore, 2 phren bark and 2 linum tirinum
Vial 10 shards

Each weapon uses its own frame. Armour upgrades consume the previous piece and the additional materials shown above.

Food and potions

Paddlefish are your food supply. Gather and cook them during preparation, with enough time left to finish the rest of your equipment.

To make an Egniol potion:

  1. Make a vial at the singing bowl and fill it at the water source.
  2. Combine the water-filled vial with a grym leaf to make an unfinished potion.
  3. Grind matching shards into dust with the pestle and mortar, then combine 10 dust with the unfinished potion.

The finished potion has three doses. Egniol restores Prayer and run energy, and gives a stamina effect. Keep prayer points available throughout the boss fight.

Crystalborn starting loadouts

With Crystalborn level 5 active, the entrance offers completed Basic, Attuned or Perfected loadouts, plus the option to prepare normally. Each completed loadout supplies the full matching armour tier, all three weapon styles, 16 cooked paddlefish and two three-dose Egniol potions.

Starting choice Rare-table chance multiplier
Basic 1.35×
Attuned 1.15×
Perfected 1.00×
Prepare normally 1.00×

The multiplier follows the starting choice. Basic gives a larger rare-table chance with weaker starting equipment; Perfected gives stronger starting equipment at the ordinary chance. See Crystalborn for its other levels and gathering benefits.

Fighting the Hunllef

The fight asks you to manage your own protection prayer, the boss's overhead prayer and movement at the same time.

  • Protect against the incoming style. The Hunllef cycles between Ranged and Magic. Use Protect from Missiles for Ranged and Protect from Magic for Magic. Specials can advance the cycle, so watch the fight rather than counting only ordinary projectiles. Correct protection reduces ordinary damage; it does not make those attacks harmless.
  • Change your weapon when its overhead changes. The Hunllef changes protection after six damaging hits and protects against the style of the hit that triggers the change. Use a different style from its displayed overhead.
  • Reactivate disabled prayers. Its prayer-disabling attack turns prayers off and sends a message. Restore the appropriate protection prayer promptly.
  • Keep clear of tornadoes. They chase you and deal contact damage. Move along clear floor tiles while keeping your prayer correct.
  • Move off warning floors. Warning tiles are blue in normal Gauntlet and red in corrupted. They turn orange when active and damage you repeatedly, even through protection prayer. Move before they activate.
  • Avoid moving underneath or immediately beside the boss. Its close-range stomp ignores protection prayer. Plan a route around it when escaping tornadoes or floor patterns.

Matching complete Basic, Attuned and Perfected armour sets give progressively stronger reduction to protected ordinary attacks and tornado contact damage. Armour does not replace movement away from active floors or the stomp.

While learning, prioritise movement and protection prayer before an extra attack. Eat and drink during clear stretches, then resume attacks with a style the boss is not protecting against.

Rewards and leaving

After a kill, you return to the reward chest with your ordinary items restored. Leave four inventory spaces free and open the chest. Claim it before entering again.

Completed chests give the rolls and crystal shards shown above. The common rewards include supplies, runes, equipment and coins. The rare table includes crystal weapon seeds, crystal armour seeds, crystal ornament rewards and enhanced crystal weapon seeds. A completed chest also has a separate pet chance.

Before Crystalborn's starting-choice bonus, each reward roll has a 1/25 chance in normal Gauntlet or a 1/12 chance in corrupted to use the rare table. These are rare-table chances, not the chance of a particular seed. Ordinary player drop-rate bonuses do not increase this chest's rare-table chance. Lucklocked changes eligible unique rewards into source mystery boxes.

Death ends the run and returns you to the chest area. A failed-run chest gives a smaller reward based on boss damage, with more reward options once you have dealt at least 200 damage; it does not use the completed rare table. Leaving early gives no completion reward. Logging out ends the run, so finish or leave before disconnecting.
