Pest Control is a combat minigame where you defend the Void Knight and destroy four portals. Eligible wins give commendation points, which buy Void equipment. Sarim allows a game to start with one player after a short boat countdown.
Getting there
- Open the Sarim Hub and search for Pest control.
- Choose a boat whose combat requirement you meet and board its gangplank.
- The first player starts a 10-second countdown. A game can begin with one player when the boat's current game has finished.
- Destroy all four portals while keeping the Void Knight alive, and keep your activity score at least 50 until the win.
Bring combat equipment, ammunition or runes as needed, and supplies for the style you plan to use. A solo game still requires you to protect the knight and finish all four portals.
Boats and points
| Boat | Combat level | Portal hitpoints | Base points per eligible win |
|---|---|---|---|
| Novice | 40 | 200 | 5 |
| Intermediate | 70 | 250 | 10 |
| Veteran | 100 | 250 | 15 |
The Void Knight has 250 hitpoints in each difficulty. The base point reward is increased by donor rank:
| Rank | Extra points per eligible win |
|---|---|
| Donator | 1 |
| Super, Elite or Noble | 2 |
| Gold | 3 |
| Platinum | 4 |
| Legendary | 5 |
| Supreme | 7 |
Winning a game
The knight stands in the centre of the battleground. The Purple portal is to the west, Blue to the east, Yellow to the southeast and Red to the southwest.
Watch the announcements and portal indicators for a shield falling, then attack that portal. Shield drops occur in a random order. Pests continue to threaten the knight while you fight, so check the centre instead of staying at one portal throughout the game.
- Kill spinners beside a portal. They heal nearby unshielded portals and can undo your progress.
- Clear enemies attacking the knight. A destroyed portal does not help if the knight dies before the others fall.
- Keep dealing damage. This protects the knight, advances the clear and maintains your activity score.
- Finish all four portals. The game ends successfully as soon as the fourth portal dies. The 20-minute time limit is a failure limit, so aim to finish before it expires.
In a group, split attention between portals and knight defence. Alone, alternate between portal damage and clearing threats at the centre. Choose a lower boat if you cannot both protect the knight and clear the portals reliably.
Activity score
You need at least 50 activity at the end of a winning game to receive points and coins. Positive damage against portals and pests adds half the damage to activity, rounded down for each hit.
Activity decays during the game. Reaching 50 early and then waiting can leave you below the reward requirement. Keep attacking and leave a buffer above 50 while the last portal is being finished. The overlay lets you monitor the score and the knight's health.
If the knight dies, the timer expires, or your score is below 50 when the game is won, you receive no points. An eligible win also awards coins.
Void equipment
Back on the island, use Exchange on the Void Knight to open the Pest Control Point Shop. It accepts commendation points and is available to regular and Ironman accounts.
| Item | Points |
|---|---|
| Void knight top | 250 |
| Void knight robe | 250 |
| Void knight gloves | 150 |
| Void mage helm | 200 |
| Void ranger helm | 200 |
| Void melee helm | 200 |
| Void knight mace | 250 |
One complete combat set costs 850 points: top, robe, gloves and one matching helm. Buying all three helms with the shared armour costs 1,250 points. The mace is optional and is not required for the set effect.
What the set does
Wear the top, robe, gloves and the helm matching your attack style together. Removing a required piece removes the set effect.
| Complete set | Attack modifier | Damage modifier |
|---|---|---|
| Regular melee | +10% | +10% |
| Regular ranged | +10% | +10% |
| Regular magic | +45% | None from the set |
| Elite melee | +10% | +10% |
| Elite ranged | +25% | +15% |
| Elite magic | +45% | +5% |
The attack modifier increases the attack roll used for accuracy. It does not add that many percentage points to your chance to hit. The damage modifier increases the maximum damage used by a normal damage roll; your final max hit also depends on the rest of your setup and rounding.
Elite Void upgrades
The other Void Knight offers upgrades for the top and robe. Each upgrade requires 200 commendation points, the regular piece in your inventory and Kandarin elite diary eligibility. Use the top or robe on the upgrade NPC. An ineligible upgrade is refused without spending points; use the regular set if your account is refused.
Upgrading both pieces costs another 400 points. Starting from no Void equipment, one helm, gloves and both upgraded pieces therefore cost 1,250 points in total. Elite set effects require both the elite top and elite robe, together with the gloves and appropriate helm.
The elite ranged and magic sets improve damage compared with their regular versions. The elite melee set keeps the same attack and damage modifiers.
Death and leaving
If you die during an ongoing game, you return to the battleground's starting area and can continue. Ordinary teleport spells are blocked inside the game. Speak to the Squire to leave, or use the Squire's leave action.
Leaving or logging out removes you from the game and gives no reward for that departure. A win returns participants to the island. See Death for wider account death rules.
