Theatre of Blood is a raid with six encounters, ending with Verzik Vitur. A party can contain one to five players. Bring melee, ranged and magic equipment, protect the party during each room's mechanics, and claim your own chest after the final fight.

Getting there and starting

  1. Use the Theatre of Blood teleport in the teleport menu. It takes you to the entrance lobby.
  2. Use the noticeboard to create a party or apply to an existing party. The leader accepts applicants from the party details screen.
  3. Set the preferred party size to the number of players entering. The leader can set it from one to five. The preferred combat level is a listing preference, rather than an entry requirement.
  4. Claim any loot left from a previous raid before starting. A party cannot start while a member has an unclaimed reward.
  5. The leader uses Enter at the Theatre entrance and confirms that the party is ready. Other members enter after the leader starts the raid.
  6. Pass the barrier to begin Maiden. After each kill, use the next room's entrance to continue.

Boss stats increase with party size. Prepare the whole party before starting, and keep everyone together as you move through the rooms.

Ordinary teleports cannot take you out of the raid. Use the Vyre orator's Resign option to leave. Logging out removes a member from the party; if the leader logs out, the party is disbanded.

These are recommendations for learning the raid:

  • Bring strong combat stats, all three protection prayers, and equipment you can switch comfortably.
  • Use a reliable melee weapon for most encounters. Bring ranged and magic switches for Nylocas, where the correct attack style is required.
  • Bring an Ancient freeze spell and its runes for Maiden's blood nylocas. In a group, agree who freezes and who finishes the adds.
  • Bring food or brews, prayer restoration, and combat boosts. Carry enough for a full encounter before expecting another restoration.
  • A poison-capable weapon or serpentine-style helmet is useful for attacking Verzik's purple nylocas.
  • Keep run enabled for dodging floor attacks. For Sotetseg's maze, use short clicks and walk through turns if running would cut across dangerous tiles.

Restoration between encounters

After the first five bosses, your combat stats, hitpoints, prayer, run energy and special attack energy are restored. Reapply your boosts and prayers before the next fight.

Bring your own food, prayer restoration and combat boosts for each fight.

Encounter overview

Order Encounter Main priority
1 The Maiden of Sugadinti Protect from Magic; stop blood nylocas reaching Maiden; leave blood pools.
2 Pestilent Bloat Stay out of sight while Bloat moves; attack while it is down; retreat before it rises.
3 Nylocas Vasilias Defend the pillars and match each nylocas's attack style.
4 Sotetseg Protect from Magic and follow the marked maze path.
5 Xarpus Move away from the tiles targeted by poison spit.
6 Verzik Vitur Use pillars, dodge floor attacks, and keep moving around webs and tornadoes.

The Maiden of Sugadinti

Keep Protect from Magic active. Maiden targets the nearest player with her regular magic attack. Prayer reduces its damage but does not make the fight harmless.

At 70%, 50% and 30% hitpoints, blood nylocas appear on both sides and move towards Maiden. Freeze and kill them before they get close. A surviving nylocas heals Maiden according to its remaining hitpoints and increases her magic damage. Assign both sides of the room to players before the fight.

Blood projectiles leave pools on the tiles players occupied when they were targeted. Move onto clear ground as they arrive. Standing in a pool damages you, drains prayer and heals Maiden. A roaming blood spawn also leaves pools as it moves; kill it promptly to keep the floor clear.

Learning priority: deal with nylocas first, then return to Maiden. Avoid spreading blood pools across the routes your team needs.

Pestilent Bloat

Bloat walks around the central structure. Stay around a corner or behind the structure while it moves. Players in its line of sight take repeated fly damage. Protect from Missiles reduces part of that damage, so use cover as your main defence.

Falling flesh marks tiles before landing. Move off those tiles immediately. Bloat can change direction, and it sometimes runs below 60% hitpoints; watch its movement rather than following a fixed route without checking.

When Bloat collapses, approach and use your melee weapon. Retreat behind cover before it stands up. Its waking stomp hits visible players for 40–80 damage and ignores protection prayers.

Learning priority: take a short, safe damage window. Being ready for the next collapse is more valuable than staying for one extra attack.

Nylocas Vasilias

Move into the central arena to begin the waves. Small nylocas arrive from both sides and attack the four pillars or players. Kill them with their matching style:

Nylocas Attack with
Ischyros Melee
Toxobolos Ranged
Hagios Magic

The wrong attack style does no damage to these small nylocas. Cover all three styles and focus on adds attacking weakened pillars. If all four pillars fall, the room collapses and kills the party.

After the waves end and the remaining small nylocas die, Vasilias appears. It changes between melee, ranged and magic forms every 30 ticks, or 18 seconds. Match your weapon to its current form and use the corresponding protection prayer. An attack with the wrong style is blocked and reflected back at you. Stop attacking briefly when a form changes if your equipment or spell is still wrong.

Learning priority: keep the pillars alive and make clean style changes. Ranged and magic protection reduce Vasilias's damage but still allow chip damage.

Sotetseg

Use Protect from Magic during the fight. Sotetseg's regular projectile attacks the surviving players with magic.

When the maze begins, stop attacking and move into the maze promptly after the warning. Follow the marked path across the floor. Unmarked tiles deal repeated damage. Use short clicks at each turn so your route stays on the marked tiles.

A tornado follows the path after a short delay. Stay ahead of it. Contact deals damage and applies a bleed that continues to hit you. Remaining outside the maze when the warning expires is fatal.

Learning priority: learn to read the visible route before trying to deal damage between movement clicks.

Xarpus

Xarpus spits at each player's current tile. Move onto clear ground after a spit is launched, then continue attacking. The spit leaves a temporary poison pool; standing on it deals damage that ignores prayer and defence.

Leave enough room to move before each attack. In a group, spread out so one player's next tile is not another player's incoming pool. Individual hits on Xarpus are capped at 50 damage, so keep attacking consistently while dodging.

After the kill, one player can Search the alcove to take a Dawnbringer. The party receives one, and the player needs a free inventory slot. Continue through the entrance to Verzik when everyone is ready.

Verzik Vitur

Talk to Verzik and confirm that the party is ready, or use Quick-start. She has three combat phases.

Phase 1: throne and pillars

Use the intact pillars as cover from Verzik's electric attack. If everyone is behind a pillar, the attack damages a pillar instead of a player. Pillars can be destroyed, so move to another intact pillar when necessary.

Attack between her casts, then return to cover. Clicking Verzik from behind a pillar moves you out into the room to attack. Keep Protect from Magic active while exposed; an uncovered electric hit can still deal very high damage.

When this phase ends, the pillars are destroyed and Verzik moves into the room.

Phase 2: floor attacks and nylocas

Keep moving off the tiles targeted by Verzik's ranged attacks. Being closer than two tiles when she attacks causes a knockback, so step away between close-range attacks.

Lightning can bounce between nearby players. In a group, position players on opposite sides so a bounce can pass through Verzik. Intercepting the lightning with the boss damages her and ends the chain. If the chain finishes without passing through her, the last player takes a heavy hit.

Bomb nylocas spawn around the room. When a player gets within four tiles, the bomb starts exploding. Move at least four tiles away before it detonates. Damage is greatest at close range.

Move off the tile targeted by the purple projectile, then attack the purple nylocas it creates. A poison-capable weapon or serpentine-style helmet lets you damage the nylocas. Later in the phase, Verzik also uses a magic attack that heals her; Protect from Magic prevents that attack's damage and healing. Blood nylocas can appear late in the phase, so clear adds while maintaining safe movement.

Phase 3: spider form

Verzik follows a chosen player and uses melee, ranged and magic attacks. Keep protection prayers ready for the incoming style. Her ranged and magic attacks can hit the whole party.

Her special attacks repeat through a sequence of bomb nylocas, webs, yellow pools and a green bomb:

  • Bomb nylocas: move away before they explode.
  • Webs: keep moving as webs land. A web on your tile damages and freezes you. Attack the visible web to free a trapped player.
  • Yellow pools: stand directly on a yellow pool and remain there for the incoming attack. Players outside the pools take 50–70 damage.
  • Green bomb: keep enough hitpoints to survive a 40–70 hit. In a group, the targeted player and the next nearest player can both be hit.

Below 75% hitpoints in spider form, a tornado appears for each surviving player. Keep moving to prevent yours reaching your tile. Contact removes half your current hitpoints, with a minimum of 5 damage, and heals Verzik for three times the damage dealt. Tornadoes return after hitting a player.

Learning priority: move first for webs, pools, bombs and tornadoes. Resume attacking once your next safe tile is clear.

Death and failure

A death puts you in the room's spectator area while the remaining players continue. Your recorded raid damage is reduced by 20% for each death. If the team finishes one of the first five encounters, dead players are restored and brought back into the room shortly afterwards.

If every player in the raid dies, the attempt ends and the party returns to the lobby. Create another party to try again. Deaths also reduce the chance of a purple reward for every party member, so avoid unnecessary risks even if the group can finish without you.

Claiming rewards

After defeating Verzik, enter the treasure room through the throne entrance or use her Teleport option. Open your assigned chest, or use the guide's Loot-Chest option.

The reward screen can send items to your bank or take them into your inventory. Ultimate Ironmen cannot use the bank option. Make inventory space before collecting; excess inventory rewards can drop on the ground. The discard option deletes the reward.

Claim before leaving. The leader should wait until everyone has collected, then use the guide's Leave-Raid option or the room's teleport crystal. A member can leave individually; the leader's exit ends the party's raid.

Purple rewards

Each player who dealt raid damage receives an individual purple roll. More than one member can receive a purple in the same completion. A player with no recorded raid damage receives a cabbage and a message instead of the normal rewards.

The following chances are per player's chest, with no party deaths and before perks, timed rewards or seasonal modifiers:

Party size Purple chance
1 1/18
2 1/20
3 1/22
4 1/24
5 1/26

Each party death adds 7 to the denominator. For example, a three-player completion with one party death has a base purple chance of 1/29.

A standard purple chest contains one item from this table. The table shows rounded chances within a purple chest, rather than chances per raid:

Item Quantity Rarity
Avernic defender hilt 1 1/4
Ghrazi rapier 1 1/7
Sanguinesti staff (uncharged) 1 1/7
Justiciar chestguard 1 1/7
Justiciar faceguard 1 1/7
Justiciar legguards 1 1/7
Scythe of vitur (uncharged) 1 1/42

Lucklocked players receive a Theatre of Blood mystery box in place of the standard purple item.

Regular and bonus rewards

A non-purple chest gives two regular loot rolls. These can include runes, ores, herbs, seeds, wine of Zamorak, battlestaves and rune equipment. It can also contain Corrupted symbiosis or Nylocas fangs as a separate bonus.

An elite clue and Lil' zik are separate rolls. Each requires at least 100 recorded raid damage after death reductions. Their base chances are 1/25 for an elite clue and 1/200 for Lil' zik; applicable clue and pet boosts can change these rates.
