Wintertodt is a shared skilling encounter where you keep braziers burning and pyromancers healthy to subdue a winter storm. Earn round points by feeding, lighting and repairing braziers or healing pyromancers, then spend stored points at Ignisia's exchange.
Getting there and preparing
- Open the Sarim Hub and search for Wintertodt.
- Speak to Ignisia outside the Doors of Dinh and complete her introduction before entering for the first time.
- Have at least 50 Firemaking and use the doors to enter.
- Bring food and an axe you can use. A knife, tinderbox and hammer let you fletch roots, light braziers and repair them. The nearby tool crates provide basic versions if you need them.
Leave inventory room for roots, kindling and potions. Aim to wear four recognised pieces of warm clothing. Examples include a fire cape, fire tiara, staff of fire, warm gloves and pyromancer clothing. Warm clothing only counts when equipped, and its benefit stops at four pieces.
A round from start to finish
- Wait for the round to start, then light a brazier with a tinderbox or bruma torch. Its pyromancer must be alive.
- Chop bruma roots. You can feed roots directly, or use a knife on them to make kindling for more points per item.
- Feed a burning brazier. Keep watching its state: feeding stops if it goes out.
- Relight an extinguished brazier. If it breaks, repair it with a hammer first, then light it again.
- Make rejuvenation potions and use them on injured or incapacitated pyromancers. A brazier with an incapacitated pyromancer cannot be relit until the pyromancer is restored.
- Watch your Warmth and restore it before it runs out. Move away from falling snow and the area around an exploding brazier.
- Stay until Wintertodt is subdued so your round points become stored points. Spend those points at the exchange outside.
Burning braziers with living pyromancers damage Wintertodt. When none are working, the storm recovers health. Keeping braziers and pyromancers active helps finish the round; feeding one brazier while the others remain broken can slow the clear.
Points and experience
These are the base points for actions. Double-Wintertodt events can change the amount you receive.
| Action | Base points | Skill experience |
|---|---|---|
| Feed one bruma root | 20 | Firemaking |
| Feed one bruma kindling | 50 | Firemaking |
| Light a brazier | 50 | Firemaking |
| Repair a brazier | 50 | Construction |
| Heal an injured pyromancer | 60 | No skill XP from this action |
| Restore an incapacitated pyromancer | 60 | No skill XP from this action |
Chopping roots gives Woodcutting experience, fletching them gives Fletching experience, and making a potion gives Herblore experience. Feeding, lighting and repairing scale experience with the relevant skill level. See XP rates for account and world experience multipliers.
Kindling gives more points from each root, but adds a fletching step. Feed roots directly when you need to act quickly; fletch them when you have time and want more points from the same gathered inventory.
Warmth and hazards
You enter with 100% Warmth. Cold, area attacks and brazier explosions reduce Warmth. Higher Firemaking, equipped warm clothing and keeping braziers lit reduce the relevant cold losses.
| Recovery | Warmth restored |
|---|---|
| Eat a food bite that normally heals at least 4 hitpoints | 35% |
| Drink a rejuvenation potion dose | 30% |
| Passive recovery each minute | 8%, plus 1% per warm clothing piece, up to 12% |
Recovery is capped at 100%. Restore Warmth before reaching zero: running out triggers damage that can kill you. Food with a large heal is not required for a larger Warmth refill; the eligible food refill is the same 35%.
Falling snow marks an area before the cold attack hits. Move away from the marked tiles and their immediate surroundings. A brazier can also break in an explosion that affects nearby players. Repair it once the hazard has passed, then relight it.
Rejuvenation potions
Take an unfinished rejuvenation potion from the potion crate and pick a bruma herb. Use the herb on the potion to make a four-dose rejuvenation potion.
Use a dose on an injured pyromancer to heal it. To restore an incapacitated one, interact with it while carrying a potion, or use the potion on it. You can also drink a dose yourself for Warmth. Drinking only benefits you inside Wintertodt.
Potions, herbs, roots and kindling are temporary encounter supplies. They are removed when the round is rewarded or when you leave the encounter area.
Rewards and the exchange
When Wintertodt is subdued, your earned round points are added to your stored Wintertodt points and the round score resets. You also gain a completion Firemaking experience reward. There is a separate Phoenix reward chance on completion.
Use Exchange on Ignisia outside the doors. The shop is available to regular and Ironman accounts.
| Reward | Stored points |
|---|---|
| Supply crate | 500 |
| Burnt page | 50 |
| Tome of fire (empty) | 150,000 |
| Pyromancer hood | 120,000 |
| Pyromancer garb | 120,000 |
| Pyromancer robe | 120,000 |
| Pyromancer boots | 120,000 |
| Warm gloves | 120,000 |
| Bruma torch | 120,000 |
A supply crate gives two common reward rolls, with supplies such as logs, ores, seeds, coins and burnt pages. It also has a separate chance for a pyromancer piece, warm gloves, an empty tome of fire or a bruma torch, and a separate Phoenix pet chance. Open the purchased crate to claim its contents.
Leaving
Using the Doors of Dinh from inside asks you to confirm leaving and resets your round points. Finish the round first when you want to bank those points. Logging out removes the encounter supplies and places you outside the encounter when you leave the region.
Warmth reaching zero can cause death. See Death for account death rules; do not rely on Warmth as protection against losing Hardcore status.
