Costume Overlay lets you wear your favourite look over your combat gear. Your real equipment still supplies your stats and combat effects. Open Costume Overlay from the client toolbar; its plugin is called Sarim Costume Overlay.

Put on a cosmetic

  1. Open a normal bank and withdraw the item you want to use for your look.
  2. Open Costume Overlay. Keep the bank open.
  3. Click the item in the window's Inventory section. It moves into its matching Active cosmetics slot.
  4. Repeat for the rest of your outfit. Your actual worn gear stays equipped.

You can use the head, cape, neck, weapon, body, shield, legs, hands and feet slots. Rings and ammunition have no cosmetic slot. Each cosmetic must be a single wearable item.

The cosmetic is a real item, not an unlocked copy. It leaves your inventory while it is in Active cosmetics. To use it as ordinary equipment again, take it out first.

Swap or remove a cosmetic

Keep a normal bank open for either action.

  • Swap: click another suitable item in the window's Inventory section. The old cosmetic returns to the inventory slot the replacement came from.
  • Remove: click the item under Active cosmetics. You need one free inventory slot for it to return.

The item keeps its charges and attached attributes when moved in or out. Costume changes are unavailable while an activity is using temporary inventory or equipment.

Save an outfit

You can keep five named outfits. Apply at least one cosmetic, enter a name under Saved outfits, then press Save current cosmetics. This saves the look you have applied, rather than your combat equipment.

Names must be unique and 1–24 characters long. Letters, numbers, spaces, apostrophes, hyphens and underscores are accepted. Select a saved outfit to rename it. Delete, then Confirm, removes the saved preset; it does not remove your active cosmetics or destroy items.

Load a saved outfit

  1. Open a normal bank.
  2. Withdraw the outfit's missing cosmetics into your inventory. Pieces already in the matching Active cosmetics slots can stay there.
  3. Select the outfit and press Load.
  4. Check the message and your active slots before closing the bank.

Outfits do not withdraw items from your bank. A matching item must be in your inventory or already active as that cosmetic. Keep spare inventory space for any current cosmetics that the saved outfit leaves out.

If some pieces are missing, the available pieces can still load. A missing replacement leaves the current cosmetic in that slot. An extra cosmetic may stay active if there is no room to take it off. Bring the missing pieces, free some space and load the outfit again.

Weapon and shield appearance in PvP

In the Wilderness and other PvP areas, your real weapon and shield are shown instead of their cosmetic replacements. Those cosmetics stay stored. The window shows a message when this applies.

The overlay also does not replace an NPC transformation. Use your equipment screen to check the gear you are actually fighting with.

Which loadout tool do I need?

Tool Use it for
Gear Loadouts Your real equipment and inventory for a boss trip or training session. Costume Overlay The appearance worn over that equipment. Player-perk loadouts Your active player-perk build.
