The Wilderness is a dangerous area where other players can attack you. Monster deaths can also cost items. Take equipment and supplies you can replace, and plan an escape before starting a trip.
Before entering
- Bank spare gear, coins and supplies. Take enough for one trip.
- Check death rules and inspect Items kept on death in the equipment tab.
- If using Protect Item, activate it and bring enough prayer supplies. It requires 25 Prayer and cannot be used with a high-risk skull.
- Choose an escape teleport and check its Wilderness limit.
- Dismiss your following pet. Pets cannot enter the Wilderness.
Use Sarim Hub to find a destination. A skull beside a destination marks it as dangerous. Check the Wilderness level after arrival. The limit is two accounts in the Wilderness from the same IP address at once.
Player combat
The Wilderness level controls how far apart two players' combat levels can be. Deeper areas let a wider range of players fight each other. At combat level 100 in level 20 Wilderness, a player also standing in level 20 Wilderness can be attacked from combat level 80 to 120.
Attacking another player can give you a skull. A normal skull removes your three base protected items; Protect Item can keep one eligible item. A high-risk skull also disables Protect Item.
Risk Protection
Set Risk Protection from the quest tab's miscellaneous options before entering. Choose a threshold of 10,000, 25,000 or 50,000 coins. You must risk at least the chosen amount yourself.
In single combat, players risking less than your threshold cannot attack you. This does not stop players who meet the threshold, and it does not protect you in multi combat. Your threshold can fall if your current risk falls.
Attacking someone who risks less than your threshold forfeits your protection for 10 minutes. You can also forfeit it through the menu. You cannot set a new protection tier while inside the Wilderness.
Escaping
| Escape option | Wilderness limit |
|---|---|
| Ordinary spell and standard Hub teleport | Level 20 or below |
| Royal seed pod, using Commune | Level 30 or below; blocked by Tele Block |
If you are too deep, move towards lower Wilderness before trying your teleport. Tele Block stops teleports even when you are within the level limit. When Protect from Magic is active as Tele Block lands, the block lasts 2 minutes 30 seconds; otherwise it lasts 5 minutes. Leaving the Wilderness clears it.
Standard teleports also have a 5-second delay after a special attack against another player. Avoid relying on an immediate teleport after using a special.
Logging out or switching worlds requires about 10 seconds without being attacked. It is not an immediate escape during a fight.
Slayer and other trips
Krystilia's tasks must be completed in the Wilderness. Bring the equipment required by your assignment, but leave unrelated valuables in the bank.
Use short trips while learning a route. Bank worthwhile drops before extending the trip. A monster fight does not make the surrounding area safe from players.
Death
Wilderness deaths use item-loss rules even when a monster kills you. Your skull and Protect Item affect what you keep. Looting bags, rune pouches, charged weapons and upgraded equipment can lose contents or components. Read Death before taking expensive equipment.
