Soul Rend is an item perk made at Item Workbench. Its compatible equipment is listed above.

What it changes

On supported attacks against monsters, Soul Rend rolls separately for an additional hit based on the monster's current HP when the attack is prepared.

The extra hit is rounded down and limited by the level's damage cap. It does not replace the normal attack or depend on that attack passing its accuracy roll.

When it helps

Provides its largest extra hits early in fights against monsters with high current HP. Its output falls as the monster loses HP, and very high HP targets reach the per-trigger cap.

Worked example

Against a monster with 5,000 current HP, a level-5 trigger calculates 500 bonus damage. At 500 current HP the same trigger calculates 50; at 20,000 current HP it is capped at 900. These are additional hits before encounter-specific reductions, not increases to every attack.

Limits and interactions

Monster targets only; monsters whose name contains "dummy" are excluded. There is no cooldown or Wilderness exclusion on supported attacks.

Supported attacks include ordinary melee and ranged attacks, dark bows, blowpipes, training staffs, several powered staffs and spellbook combat spells. A multi-target spell can roll separately for each monster reached by the spell.

Scythe variants, Infernal tecpatl, Gauntlet staff attacks, corrupted javelin and Tonalztics of ralos do not receive Soul Rend. The Workbench rejects attaching it to scythes. Chinchompas can roll once for the primary target; their splash hits do not inherit the extra hit.

Ordinary melee and ranged special attacks generally bypass this effect. It does not roll separately for every component of a multi-hit attack. Dark bows and supported blowpipes roll once for the attack.

The extra hit has no accuracy roll, but encounter-specific immunity, blocking, caps or reductions can still apply. It is marked secondary and cannot trigger further offensive attachment chains; ordinary Gridmaster base attacks can qualify.

Attach and upgrade

At home, open Item Workbench and choose Perks Mode. Select the equipment from your inventory, then choose Soul Rend. The first application rolls a level from 1 to 5. Applying it again can raise its level; an equal or lower roll keeps the current level and does not refund materials used. Each attempt normally spends the recipe again; eligible donation ranks can preserve individual recipe entries. This does not change the level-roll chances. Level 5 cannot be upgraded further.

Material Full recipe Remove Perk return
Refined Essence 100 70
Resonant Catalyst 3 2

Stored and carried materials combine; storage is used first. The return column is for Remove Perk in Perks Mode. It refunds part of one base recipe to Workbench Storage, even after several upgrades. Disintegration destroys the equipment and its attachments.

Level roll chances

Rolled level Chance per attempt
1 50%
2 25%
3 13%
4 7%
5 5%

These are the chances of each exact rolled level. Selecting a level preview does not choose the result. Repeated attempts do not guarantee level 5.
