RewardsCombat boosts and restorative supplies

Herblore turns herbs and secondary ingredients into useful combat supplies. Train with potions you will use: Prayer potions at 38, super restores at 63 and Saradomin brews at 81 are practical targets. Farming supplies herbs, while monster drops and shops supply many secondaries.

Make your first potions

  1. Get grimy guam, vials of water and eyes of newt. Regular accounts can buy vials and eyes in the Herblore Store through Sarim Shops. Ironmen can buy water-filled vials and eye of newt packs in the Iron Man Store.
  2. Choose Clean on the guam. Cleaning requires the herb's Herblore level and gives a small amount of XP.
  3. Use the clean guam on a vial of water to make a guam potion (unf). This unfinished step gives no XP.
  4. Use an eye of newt on the unfinished potion and choose an amount in the production menu. Attack potions require level 1 and give 25 base XP per completed potion.

Most ordinary recipes below make a three-dose potion. Keep the primary ingredient and every required secondary in your inventory. The production loop stops when ingredients run out or you interrupt it.

Useful training recipes

XP is the base amount for finishing the potion, before difficulty and other XP modifiers. Herb cleaning has a separate requirement; do not use the Farming level as the Herblore level.

Potion Herblore Primary ingredient Secondary Base XP
Attack 1 Guam potion (unf) Eye of newt 25
Strength 12 Tarromin potion (unf) Limpwurt root 50
Prayer 38 Ranarr potion (unf) Snape grass 87.5
Super attack 45 Irit potion (unf) Eye of newt 100
Super energy 52 Avantoe potion (unf) Mort myre fungus 117.5
Super strength 55 Kwuarm potion (unf) Limpwurt root 125
Super restore 63 Snapdragon potion (unf) Red spiders' eggs 142.5
Super defence 66 Cadantine potion (unf) White berries 150
Antifire 69 Lantadyme potion (unf) Dragon scale dust 157.5
Ranging 72 Dwarf weed potion (unf) Wine of Zamorak 162.5
Magic 76 Lantadyme potion (unf) Potato cactus 172.5
Saradomin brew 81 Toadflax potion (unf) Crushed nest 180

At 90 Herblore, a super combat potion uses one clean torstol, one super attack(3), one super strength(3) and one super defence(3), for 150 base XP. It consumes all four ingredients unless an active material-saving effect preserves the batch.

Build a supply loop

For an Ironman, pair Farming with the potion you want. Ranarr needs 32 Farming to plant and Prayer potions need 38 Herblore to finish. Snapdragon needs 62 Farming and super restores need 63 Herblore. Growing the herb does not supply the secondary ingredient. Snape grass can be grown in allotments at 61 Farming.

Search the missing ingredient in Sarim Hub's Drops tab and choose a monster you can kill consistently. Bank matching herb and secondary stacks together so the next session is ready to mix.

The Iron Man Store sells a vial of water for 6 coins, a pestle and mortar for 25 coins and an eye of newt pack for 15,000 coins. The regular Herblore Store sells a vial of water for 2 coins and an eye of newt for 3 coins. Shop access follows your account mode.

Doses and perks

Use matching partially used potions together to combine their doses. A potion decanter's Decant action lets you choose one-, two-, three- or four-dose output for potions in your inventory. Decanting rearranges doses; it does not create extra potion doses or train Herblore.

Equip Apothecary through Sarim Perks before mixing. It can increase the number processed together and preserve ingredients. You still need the ingredients and recipe level to start. Perk builds explains active slots and loadouts.

If mixing fails

  • Check the recipe's Herblore level and every secondary ingredient.
  • Clean grimy herbs before using the normal unfinished-potion route.
  • Use the required dose variant for recipes such as super combat.
  • Check your bank for a missing secondary rather than collecting more of the herb you already have.
