Farming grows herbs and other supplies for Herblore and skilling. Sarim's crop growth is much faster than ordinary OSRS growth, and diseased crops can be recovered. Start with allotments, then grow the herb your next potion needs.

Prepare a patch run

  1. Buy a rake, seed dibber and spade through Sarim Shops. Bring plant cure and leave space for produce. Ironmen can buy all four in the Iron Man Store.
  2. Bring seeds matching the patch: allotment seeds for allotments and herb seeds for herb patches. Allotments need three seeds per planting; herbs need one.
  3. Open Sarim Hub → Skills → Farming. Useful destinations are Catherby Patches, Falador Patches, Ardougne Patches and Phasmatys Patches.
  4. Click an overgrown patch to rake it until it is clear. Use compost or supercompost before planting if you have it.
  5. Use the seed on the prepared patch with the seed dibber in your inventory. Once mature, click the crop to harvest it. Allotment harvesting also requires a spade.

The Iron Man Store sells a rake and seed dibber for 15 coins each, a spade for 5 coins and plant cure for 25 coins. Olivia's seed shop supplies early allotment seeds; herb seeds also come from monster drops and Master Farmer pickpocketing, which requires 38 Thieving. Use Sarim Hub's Drops search for a specific seed.

Choose a useful crop

Crop Farming level Patch / purpose
Potatoes 1 Allotment; starting crop
Onions 5 Allotment
Guam 9 Herb; attack potions
Harralander 26 Herb; several early potion recipes
Ranarr 32 Herb; Prayer potions at 38 Herblore
Toadflax 38 Herb; Saradomin brews at 81 Herblore
Irit 44 Herb; super attack at 45 Herblore
Kwuarm 56 Herb; super strength at 55 Herblore
Snape grass 61 Allotment; secondary for Prayer potions
Snapdragon 62 Herb; super restores at 63 Herblore
Torstol 85 Herb; super combat at 90 Herblore

Harvested herbs are grimy. Clean them and follow the recipe on Herblore. Planting and harvesting award Farming XP; potion mixing awards Herblore XP. Your account difficulty affects the XP you receive.

Growth, disease and yield

Herb patches become ready immediately when their state refreshes after planting. Allotments also grow quickly. Check the patch rather than planning around OSRS hour-long crop timers.

Use Inspect when a patch seems stalled. For a diseased non-tree crop, use plant cure. A diseased tree is pruned with secateurs. Disease stops progress until cured; this system keeps it recoverable instead of letting disease advance into permanent crop death.

Compost and supercompost reduce disease chance. Supercompost also increases herb harvest yield. Apply it to a cleared patch before planting. Do not clear a valuable diseased crop when a cure is available. Using a spade on a planted patch clears the crop; harvest by clicking the mature crop instead.

Magic secateurs can preserve harvest life while harvesting. They work when held or carried in inventory. Equip Green Thumb in Sarim Perks for its yield and seed-saving benefits; saplings do not use the seed-saving roll. These effects still require the crop's level and materials.

Tree saplings

To fill an empty plant pot, use it on a raked patch with a gardening trowel in your inventory. Use a tree seed on the filled plant pot, then water the seedling with a watering can. It becomes a sapling immediately. Bring a spade and use the sapling on the matching prepared tree patch. Tree patches and fruit-tree patches accept their own crop types.

Leave room for produce and an empty pot. Keep a watering can and secateurs for tree work rather than relying on the herb-only tool setup.

A practical supply goal

Train early allotments until you can plant guam at level 9. Then collect herbs alongside further allotment training. For Prayer potions, work toward 32 Farming and 38 Herblore, and obtain snape grass separately until you can grow it at 61 Farming. Choose later crops around the supplies you actually use.
