Chompy hunting uses bloated swamp toads to lure birds in Feldip Hills. Shoot your own bird with an ogre bow, then pluck it for supplies and Hunter XP. Rantz provides starter equipment, daily arrows and hats for your kill count.
Start hunting
- Find Rantz in Feldip Hills at 2631, 2983 on the surface. The swamp toads are southwest of him.
- Have 30 base Ranged and choose Starter supplies / replace missing equipment. Rantz gives a missing ogre bow and ogre bellows, plus 25 ogre arrows when you first start. Leave room for them.
- Equip the ogre bow and ogre arrows. A comp ogre bow also works with ogre or brutal arrows.
- Fill the bellows at the nearby swamp gas bubbles. One filling supplies three loads.
- Use the filled bellows on a swamp toad, or click a toad while carrying filled bellows, to make a bloated toad.
- Drop the bloated toad on open ground in Feldip Hills. Stay nearby while it attracts a bird.
- Shoot the chompy you lured. Only you can attack that bird. Pluck its corpse before it disappears.
You can carry three bloated toads, place three baits and have up to three live chompies at once. A bait waits 15–35 ticks before attempting to attract a bird. Stay online in the hunting area and close to the bait; open ground gives the bird room to land. Birds fly away if left too long.
Plucking
Leave three free inventory slots to pluck your bird. Each corpse gives:
- 1 raw chompy
- 1 bones
- 10–30 feathers
- 30 base Hunter XP
The kill is recorded when the bird dies. Plucking is a separate action for its supplies and Hunter XP.
Daily arrows and replacement equipment
Rantz offers 25 ogre arrows per day, resetting at 00:00 UTC. Your first starter arrows count as that day's claim. Use Claim today's 25 ogre arrows on a later day.
The replacement option checks your inventory, equipment and bank before giving another bow or bellows. Keep inventory space for missing equipment and arrows.
Making ogre arrows
All four steps need 5 base Fletching. Bring space for the output; the knife and chisel are not consumed.
| Use | Output | Base Fletching XP |
|---|---|---|
| Knife on achey logs | 2–6 ogre arrow shafts | 1.6 per log |
| Chisel on wolf bones | 2–6 ogre arrowtips | 2.5 per bone |
| Ogre arrow shafts with feathers | 1 flighted ogre arrow per shaft and 4 feathers | 0.9 per shaft |
| Flighted ogre arrows with ogre arrowtips | 1 ogre arrow per pair | 1 per arrow |
The feathering and tip steps process up to six arrows at a time. Account XP modifiers apply to these base rewards.
Kill count, hats and pet
Use your bow's Check option or ask Rantz to see your kills. Choose Check kills / claim hats at Rantz to collect every unlocked hat you do not already own. Make space and ask again if you cannot carry all of them.
The 18 hat thresholds are 30, 40, 50, 70, 95, 125, 170, 225, 300, 400, 550, 700, 1,000, 1,300, 1,700, 2,250, 3,000 and 4,000 kills. Reaching 4,000 kills also gives a one-time 30,000 base Ranged XP reward.
Each chompy kill has a separate 1/500 chance to unlock Chompy chick. You do not need 4,000 kills for the pet roll.
