Cluebound is an item perk made at Item Workbench. Its compatible equipment is listed above.
What it changes
Increases the chance of eligible clue rewards and automatically picks up ordinary NPC clue scroll drops when your inventory can hold them. Level 1 enables pickup, but its clue chance currently matches having no attachment.
When it helps
Levels 2–5 improve supported clue rolls beyond the current unattached chance. Every positive level can save manual pickup of ordinary NPC clue drops; higher levels do not expand pickup range or inventory capacity.
Worked example
For an ordinary NPC hard-clue roll with no Combat Achievement adjustment or seasonal clue relic, no attachment and level 1 both give a 1/58 chance. Level 5 gives 1/48: about 20.83% more chance relative to that starting value. Auto-pickup still needs inventory space.
Levels
| Level | Effects at this level |
|---|---|
| 1 | Clue chance factor: 1.06× Extra chance over no attachment, before rounding/caps: 0% |
| 2 | Clue chance factor: 1.12× Extra chance over no attachment, before rounding/caps: about 5.66% |
| 3 | Clue chance factor: 1.18× Extra chance over no attachment, before rounding/caps: about 11.32% |
| 4 | Clue chance factor: 1.24× Extra chance over no attachment, before rounding/caps: about 16.98% |
| 5 | Clue chance factor: 1.30× Extra chance over no attachment, before rounding/caps: about 22.64% |
Limits and interactions
For the clue rolls covered here, having no attachment currently gives the same 1.06× chance factor as level 1. Levels 2–5 improve on that starting value. Level 1 still provides eligible NPC clue auto-pickup.
The chance benefit covers ordinary NPC bonus clue rolls, mining clue geodes, fishing clue bottles, the paid Wilderness agility dispenser's medium-clue roll and the Theatre of Blood elite-clue roll after at least 100 damage. It does not improve clue casket contents or every clue source.
Mining and fishing already add their clue containers to your inventory or drop them. Cluebound does not change container tier selection. The Wilderness dispenser still refuses its medium clue if you already have one in inventory or bank. An NPC clue becomes an owned ground drop if your inventory cannot hold it.
Clue sources round and roll their chances differently. The level table shows relative factors before those rules; actual gains can differ or disappear at a rounding boundary. The worked example shows the resulting chance for one ordinary NPC roll.
The Theatre of Blood elite-clue chance benefit is skipped in Gridmaster. The ordinary NPC, mining, fishing and Wilderness dispenser benefits do not share that exclusion; seasonal clue relic bonuses can apply separately.
The ring must be worn. A clue already listed as an item in an NPC's drop table does not receive a separate Cluebound chance boost, but eligible clue scrolls from that table still receive its auto-pickup benefit.
Attach and upgrade
At home, open Item Workbench and choose Perks Mode. Select the equipment from your inventory, then choose Cluebound. The first application rolls a level from 1 to 5. Applying it again can raise its level; an equal or lower roll keeps the current level and does not refund materials used. Each attempt normally spends the recipe again; eligible donation ranks can preserve individual recipe entries. This does not change the level-roll chances. Level 5 cannot be upgraded further.
| Material | Full recipe | Remove Perk return |
|---|---|---|
| Fractured Essence | 95 | 66 |
| Refined Essence | 25 | 17 |
| Binding Catalyst | 3 | 2 |
Stored and carried materials combine; storage is used first. The return column is for Remove Perk in Perks Mode. It refunds part of one base recipe to Workbench Storage, even after several upgrades. Disintegration destroys the equipment and its attachments.
Level roll chances
| Rolled level | Chance per attempt |
|---|---|
| 1 | 30% |
| 2 | 30% |
| 3 | 20% |
| 4 | 10% |
| 5 | 10% |
These are the chances of each exact rolled level. Selecting a level preview does not choose the result. Repeated attempts do not guarantee level 5.
