Conservation is an item perk made at Item Workbench. Its compatible equipment is listed above.
What it changes
When supported equipment would spend charges or ammunition, Conservation can preserve that entire cost. Level 5 always preserves costs covered by this effect; the equipment exceptions below still apply.
When it helps
Reduces running costs on supported charged weapons, loaded blowpipe ammunition and some charged equipment. It preserves the resource on the item carrying the attachment.
Worked example
Across 100 otherwise-required one-charge costs, level 4 saves 32 charges on average and consumes 68. On the active Drygore blowpipe with its 60% quiver save, level 4 reduces the remaining dart-loss chance from 40% to 27.2% per shot (40% × 68%).
Levels
| Level | Effects at this level |
|---|---|
| 1 | Save chance per supported consumption attempt: 8% Expected cost remaining: 92% |
| 2 | Save chance per supported consumption attempt: 16% Expected cost remaining: 84% |
| 3 | Save chance per supported consumption attempt: 24% Expected cost remaining: 76% |
| 4 | Save chance per supported consumption attempt: 32% Expected cost remaining: 68% |
| 5 | Save chance per supported consumption attempt: 100% Expected cost remaining: 0% |
Limits and interactions
Equipment still needs its normal initial ammunition or charge supply. Revenant weapons need usable ether above their 1,000-ether activation deposit. Conservation does not recharge empty gear, save charging ingredients or refund uncharging and dismantling.
Supported examples include both tridents, standard charged Tumeken's shadow, sanguinesti and holy sanguinesti staffs, charged Vitur scythes, charged bow of faerdhinen and Blade of Saeldor, Arclight, abyssal tentacle, blood fury, ether weapons, blowpipes, serpentine-family helmets, recoil and suffering rings, tomes, bracelet of ethereum and degraded PvP equipment. The exceptions below still apply.
Toxic staff of the dead still spends scales. Ordinary spell runes, blighted sacks, special attack energy and charges belonging to older item upgrades such as Double Hit or Special Saver are not preserved.
A Venator bow with one remaining charge becomes uncharged before Conservation can save it. Dragonfire shields spend their final charge without a save. Ring of suffering empties when its recoil damage reaches its remaining charge count. PvP equipment's first degradation also happens regardless of Conservation.
For ordinary arrows, bolts and chinchompas, any Conservation check belongs to the ammunition itself. Putting Conservation on a bow or crossbow does not preserve that ordinary ammunition. The public Workbench does not normally allow an attachment on ordinary ammunition.
Blowpipe darts and scales are checked separately. Other ammunition savers can avoid a cost before Conservation is needed. Level 5 therefore does not make every weapon or every use of charged equipment free.
Attach and upgrade
At home, open Item Workbench and choose Perks Mode. Select the equipment from your inventory, then choose Conservation. The first application rolls a level from 1 to 5. Applying it again can raise its level; an equal or lower roll keeps the current level and does not refund materials used. Each attempt normally spends the recipe again; eligible donation ranks can preserve individual recipe entries. This does not change the level-roll chances. Level 5 cannot be upgraded further.
| Material | Full recipe | Remove Perk return |
|---|---|---|
| Fractured Essence | 75 | 52 |
| Binding Catalyst | 1 | 0 |
Stored and carried materials combine; storage is used first. The return column is for Remove Perk in Perks Mode. It refunds part of one base recipe to Workbench Storage, even after several upgrades. Disintegration destroys the equipment and its attachments.
Level roll chances
| Rolled level | Chance per attempt |
|---|---|
| 1 | 40% |
| 2 | 27% |
| 3 | 15% |
| 4 | 8% |
| 5 | 10% |
These are the chances of each exact rolled level. Selecting a level preview does not choose the result. Repeated attempts do not guarantee level 5.
