Ring of AoE is a ring that deals additional magic damage to NPCs during combat. It requires 75 Hitpoints to equip and can hit several nearby NPCs when the wearer is in multi-combat.
Obtaining
The Ring of AoE is a drop from Argentavis. It is also one of three equally likely rewards from an Argentavis mystery box, giving a 1/3 chance per box.
Effect
While equipped, the ring has a 1/4 chance each eligible combat tick to activate. The wearer must have a combat target within their normal attack reach. The ring can activate while waiting for the next weapon attack; it does not require a successful hit.
The effect depends on where the wearer is standing:
| Combat area | Targets | Base damage per NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Single-combat | The current NPC target | 5–8 |
| Multi-combat | 4–8 randomly selected nearby NPCs, limited by availability | 0–5 |
In multi-combat, targets are selected from combat NPCs within five tiles of the wearer, including diagonals, on the same plane. Each NPC can be selected once per activation. Fewer targets are hit if fewer are available, and the current target is only hit if selected.
Multi-target selection excludes the Theatre of Blood supporting pillar, summer imps and frogs, and Nightmare totems. These exclusions apply to the multi-target selection.
The extra hits use magic, bypass Defence accuracy and protection prayers, and require no ring charges or runes. Damage bonuses, combat perks and target mechanics can still affect the damage. The listed ranges are the base damage before these effects. Ring hits can also interact with eligible weapon sigils, including consuming their charges.
Wilderness and PvP
The ring only damages NPCs. It can work against NPCs in the Wilderness. During PvP in multi-combat, an activation can still select nearby NPCs; it does not damage the opposing player.
