The Serpentine helm is a helmet requiring 75 Defence. Charge it with Zulrah's scales to gain its defensive bonuses and protection from poison and venom. The uncharged helmet is tradeable; the charged helmet is not.
Creating a serpentine helm
Obtain a serpentine visage from Zulrah, then use a chisel on it with 53 Crafting to make an uncharged helmet. Add Zulrah's scales before equipping it for a fight.
Charging and use
Use scales on the helmet to add charges, up to 11,000 scales. The Check option shows the remaining amount. Scales are consumed while you have recently been under attack. When it runs out, the helmet returns to its uncharged form and loses its charged defensive bonuses and protection.
While charged and worn, the helmet prevents poison and venom. Your melee attacks can also envenom vulnerable NPCs. It is useful for encounters with poison or venom, but its Magic and Ranged attack penalties make it less suited to those styles.
The Uncharge option returns the remaining scales and leaves an uncharged helmet. Leave inventory room for the returned scales. Dismantling an ordinary uncharged helmet destroys it and gives 20,000 scales; check that you want the materials before confirming.
Combat stats
These bonuses apply to the charged helmet before Tempering. The uncharged version retains the −5 Magic and −5 Ranged attack penalties but has none of the defensive or Strength bonuses below.
| Attack bonuses | |
|---|---|
| Magic attack | -5 |
| Ranged attack | -5 |
| Defence bonuses | |
| Stab defence | 52 |
| Slash defence | 55 |
| Crush defence | 58 |
| Ranged defence | 50 |
| Other bonuses | |
| Melee strength | 5 |
Mutagens
Use a tanzanite mutagen or magma mutagen on the helmet to change it to the corresponding variant. The mutagen is consumed, and any existing scales stay with the helmet.
