Yama is an instanced boss with fire and shadow attacks. The fight has three phases, separated by encounters with the Judge of Yama. Yama has 16,000 hitpoints solo and 28,800 when started with more than one player.

Access and preparation

Choose Yama in Sarim Hub, then use the Voice of Yama to start an instance or join a host by name. Have your partner join before choosing Challenge at Yama's throne; players cannot join after the fight begins.

Bring melee and Magic attacks for the Judge, food, Prayer restoration and poison protection. Keep all three protection prayers available.

Fight

Use the matching protection prayer against Yama's ordinary attacks. Protection reduces damage rather than removing it, and his attacks can poison.

When Yama announces a fire-based or shadow-based special, step onto the centre of the matching active glyph shortly before impact. Its protection lasts only five ticks. Fire glyphs cost health and shadow glyphs drain Prayer; both cost more when Yama is close to the glyph.

In the second phase, the meteor attack turns run off and targets a saved tile. Move well away from that tile, or time a fire glyph to absorb it. A shadow glyph protects against the shadow stomp.

At distance during the final phase, Yama alternates Magic and Ranged attacks. Continue watching the floor while changing prayers.

Judge intermissions

At 66% and 33% health, Yama becomes invulnerable and sends players to fight a Judge. Begin with Magic. After a successful Magic hit, switch to melee, then continue alternating after each successful hit. The overhead protection icons show the blocked styles; Ranged is blocked throughout. Defeat the Judge to return to Yama.

Drops

Players still in the encounter's region receive personal loot when Yama dies. These are notable ordinary-mode rewards; quantities exclude extra rewards and quantity bonuses. Non-guaranteed rates are shown per normal reward roll.
