The King Black Dragon is a three-headed dragon in the King Black Dragon lair. He uses melee and several types of dragonfire. For the Echo encounter, see Echo King Black Dragon.
Getting there
Choose King black dragon in the Sarim Hub, then pull the entrance-room lever to enter the public lair. The return lever takes you back to the entrance room.
For a private encounter, choose commune on the entrance lever and confirm. This entrance does not require instance tokens.
Fight
The King Black Dragon attacks every seven ticks. Within one tile, he can use melee with a maximum hit of 25. His dragonfire reaches up to eight tiles and hits up to 65 without protection.
Bring dragonfire protection. Antifire potions, anti-dragon and dragonfire shields, and Protect from Magic reduce dragonfire damage. Super antifire provides full dragonfire resistance, but special breaths still deal damage and apply their effects:
- Freezing breath can freeze you for three seconds.
- Shock breath can drain Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged and Magic by two levels.
- Poison breath can poison you, starting at eight damage.
Standing away from the dragon avoids his melee attacks, but does not stop his dragonfire.

Each kill drops dragon bones and two black dragonhides. Notable rewards include the dragon pickaxe, draconic visage, Big wing and KBD heads.
