Gridmaster board and tasks explains the 49-task board used by seasonal Gridmaster characters. Complete tasks to earn relics, equipment, XP rewards and Grid points. Finishing a full row or column adds a separate line reward.

Getting started

  1. Open the Gridmaster panel and read its Guide tab.
  2. Click Begin my adventure to complete the free centre tile.
  3. Select that tile in Details and claim your first gathering bonus. You choose Power Miner, Lumberjack or Animal Wrangler.
  4. Work on any task you can complete. You do not need to select its tile while playing, and neighbouring tiles do not have to be complete first.
  5. Return to Details to claim rewards that need a claim, then use Relics to manage their settings.

Your board progress belongs to your seasonal character and season. Gridmaster characters use Ironman mode and cannot ordinarily trade with other players. Items on your main character do not complete seasonal tasks. See Gridmaster for the starter profile and panel controls.

Reading the board

The board is 7 by 7. Row 1 is at the top and row 7 at the bottom; column 1 is on the left and column 7 on the right. For board directions, north is the top, east is the right, south is the bottom and west is the left.

Every character uses the same task layout. There is no board rotation or task reroll. The centre is row 4, column 4. Moving away from the centre by horizontal or vertical steps determines a tile’s difficulty. The four tiles diagonally beside the centre are two steps away for difficulty.

The shortened names above identify the tiles. Gridmaster task list gives every full task title, its reward and the conditions that count toward completion.

Difficulty and Grid points

Grid points are awarded once when a task becomes complete. Repeating a completed task gives no extra Grid points. Lines grant their own rewards but do not add task points.

Steps from centre Difficulty Tiles Points per tile
0 Introduction 1 100
1 Beginner 4 100
2 Easy 8 100
3 Medium 12 250
4 Hard 12 500
5 Elite 8 1,000
6 Master 4 2,000

All 49 tasks give 26,300 Grid points in total. See Gridmaster rewards for spending them on your main account.

Rows and columns

A line is complete when all seven of its tasks are complete. You do not have to claim the seven tile rewards first. Only rows and columns count; diagonals give no line reward. A task that finishes both its row and column earns both line rewards.

Line Reward How it activates
Row 1 Amulet of the Monarchs Claim the item
Row 2 Treasure Hunter Claim the relic
Row 3 Combat mastery +1 tier Automatic
Row 4 XP rate +2× Automatic
Row 5 Combat mastery +1 tier Automatic
Row 6 Guardian Thrall Claim the relic
Row 7 Emperor Ring Claim the item
Column 1 The Dogsword Claim the item
Column 2 Precision Claim the relic
Column 3 Combat mastery +1 tier Automatic
Column 4 XP rate +2× Automatic
Column 5 Combat mastery +1 tier Automatic
Column 6 Exposure Claim the relic
Column 7 Sunlight spear Claim the item

See Gridmaster combat masteries, Gridmaster combat relics, Gridmaster utility relics and Gridmaster equipment for the effects of these rewards.

Rewards and claims

Automatic rewards

Your earned XP rate starts at 5×. Catching 25 lobsters, looting Barrows after all six brothers, winning Pest Control with enough activity, completing row 4 and completing column 4 each add 2× to that rate. All five raise it to 15×. For example, finishing the lobster task changes 5× to 7× immediately.

Combat mastery also activates immediately. Scurrius, Bryophyta, rows 3 and 5, and columns 3 and 5 each grant one shared tier, up to six. The order does not change which tier you receive next. See Gridmaster combat masteries.

Reaching 2,000 base total level automatically marks the native Combat Achievement tasks complete and awards their matching points. It does not directly grant their tier items.

XP lamps

Three tasks offer a one-time XP choice:

Task Base XP At 5× At 15×
Smith 10 bronze daggers 10,000 50,000 150,000
Reach total level 500 25,000 125,000 375,000
Reach total level 1,500 100,000 500,000 1,500,000

Choose a skill when claiming. The lamp uses your current XP rate at claim time, so waiting for more XP-rate upgrades increases its value. Turn off your XP lock before claiming. XP above the skill’s cap is lost, so choose another skill if it is already capped. Lamps do not pass their XP through linked-skill sharing.

Gathering bonuses

The introduction, maple-log task and gold-ore task each offer a gathering-bonus choice. Each of Power Miner, Lumberjack and Animal Wrangler can be chosen once. You can unlock all three across the three tasks, in any order. These are bonuses; continue using the ordinary tools and meeting the action requirements.

Choose the first bonus for the gathering method you plan to train. See Gridmaster skilling relics for their effects and processing settings.

Relics and items

Most named relics and all equipment rewards need a claim from their completed tile or line. Completing the task makes the reward available; claiming it unlocks the effect or puts the item in your inventory. Leave enough inventory room for item rewards. A failed claim due to a full inventory leaves the reward available and does not drop it on the ground.

Raid weapon choices

Personally earning a supported unique from full Chambers of Xeric, normal Theatre of Blood or Tombs of Amascut unlocks one raid-weapon choice. Each of these three tasks can be claimed once. Choose Twisted bow, Scythe of vitur or Tumeken’s shadow; each weapon can only be chosen once across the three claims.

The choice is permanent. Losing an item does not let you choose that weapon again. Make room for the entire reward before claiming; a full inventory leaves the choice pending. See Gridmaster rewards for the supplied arrows and charges.

Suggested early route

Start with the free introduction and nearby tasks: clean three herbs, pickpocket a man or woman ten times, craft ten leather gloves and smith ten bronze daggers. Their rewards help with later training. Claim the relics you earn; leaving them unclaimed delays their benefits.

Fishing to 40 and catching 25 lobsters gives an early XP-rate upgrade. The middle column is another useful target: it needs the introduction, leather gloves, bronze daggers, 25 essence made into air runes, ten strung sapphire amulets, gold ore and 100 smelted steel bars. Its skilling thresholds include 24 Crafting, 30 Smithing and 40 Mining, and the completed column gives another automatic +2× XP rate.

Use ordinary furnace smelting for the steel task. Superheat Item does not advance it. Primary gathering still counts when its resources are sent to your bank, but extra relic products do not replace the task’s required actions.

Plan ahead for the middle row’s fruit-tree health check, maple log, fruit stall and valuable alchemy cast. Add Barrows and Pest Control when you can complete their participation conditions. Consider saving XP lamps until you have earned more XP-rate upgrades, especially the 100,000-base-XP lamp.

Scurrius and normal Bryophyta give the first two available combat-mastery sources without needing a completed line. The three unique-drop corners require your own raid reward, so complete the easier training and combat upgrades before making them your main target.
